Miley Cyrus vs Honey Singh

So many of you will be surprised on the comparison of these two celebrities, but I found lot of things in  common between them. In fact, I can say Honey Singh is Miley Cyrus for Punjabi culture.

Miley Cyrus rose to prominence as teen star Hannah Montana, which I loved, and was loved by lot of teenagers.  (Wiki)

She is talented, yes, but now what is she famous for Twerking. I have read about so much backlash against her for her twerking on Video Music Awards performance, for distorting the image of Disney forever, for not leaving anything for imagination. What has Miley Cyrus become now. But does anything of it matter in a bigger picture. She do some drastic act, going nude for Wrecking Ball, and what happens:  Wrecking Ball set another Vevo record for 19.3 million views in the first twenty-four hours of its release.

iPhone 5S so called new revolution – cliched

So Apple launched new phone , iPhone 5 S, so called new revolution as always.. Best thing to happen iPhone 5 S. There will be lot of sites reviewing it. So it is not a review, nor I have got an opportunity to use it yet. Just got the comparison of latest phones from my favourite site, Mashable.
Reblogging it here.

This is comparison of iPhone 5S, HTC One, S4, Lumia 1020, which clearly shows S4 has upper hand in terms of more screen size, more resolution, more ppi, micro sd slot, and universal micro USB charger.

Mashable comparison

Anyways the apple hardcore lovers will never compare, for them it is the biggest thing since iPhone 5

Jatt and Juliet 2 – Review

Last night, saw the movie Jatt and Juliet 2. Surprisingly this was recommended to me by my friend from Pakistan, which again emphasises the fact that cinema, entertainment knows no boundaries, and good thing will touch everyone heart and leave a smile.

This movie is all in all a comedy. Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa have again proved their worth as fine actors. Every dialogue in the movie has a punch, and leaves your stomach hunting from too much laughing. I even choked on my water, :).

Songs are as well mesmerising with dance numbers of Mr Singh, shoulder and meri buggi. And Sukhwinder once again is brilliant with Naina. He has a beautiful resounding voice which suits it. Direction, editing, dialogues , songs, acting everything was of high quality.

Though the punjabi police ways working in Canada is bit overdone, but you all know it is comedy and they can take a bit of liberty.

All the character actors, Jaswinder Bhalla, Rana Ranbir, B.N. Sharma complemented the film, and comedy never felt like imposed. Editing was brilliant. And what I liked most was in this movie, there were no hidden vulgar punches, which can act as lesson that other writers to write clean and good comedy.

Though still punjabi movies have to work on serious genre, but comedy is a sure shot recipe. This movie is a properly made high budget commercial one, which is definitely going to be super hit, and will be a shining star of Punjabi cinema, for some years to come.

Cherry Cake

This cake was one of the first ones I tried baking at home. And the success of this one made me look forward to baking, and steered me towards more goodness.

Ingredients

Self Raising Flour – 115gms
Baking powder – 1/2 tsp
Baking Soda – ½ tsp
Salt – a pinch
Butter/Olive oil – 50 gms
Sugar – 65 gms
Cherries – 65 gms (I used the berries mocktail, we get in Aldi)
Eggs – 2
Milk – 2-3 tbsp

Frosting:
Cream: 4-5tsp
Sugar – 1-11/2 tsp
Vanilla essence can be added, if available

Cherries – for decorating

Method

Preheat oven to 180C.
Grease and line a loaf tin or a small cake tin and flour it.
Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl. (This helps in making it soft)
Whip the eggs in another bowl. Add sugar and beat with a electric beater, till it is light and fluffy.
Add the butter/oil, and beat more.
Mix in the flour mix in three batches, alternating with the berries mixture and milk. Keep beating lightly after each addition.
Beat till you get a smooth batter, the batter is fairly thick and not of pourable consistency, it is rather of a dropping consistency. (It should be of wavy structure)
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf tin and bake for 30-35 minutes or till the cake is golden brown and firm and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

For frosting, put cream, sugar and vanilla essence in a bowl and whip it with a electric beater for about 7-10 minutes. It is done to put lot of air in it.
Put this frosting on the cake and sides of cake to cover it fully.
Decorate it with cherries.
Put in a fridge and serve as desired.

Note: Start checking cake after 25 minutes. Cover the cake with Aluminum foil after 10 minutes , so that it does not get too hard on top.

Ret – a review of punjabi novel

This is a review I wrote long before, but wanted to be here as well.

Harjeet Atwal is a novelist of front row in Punjabi literature. He is not a only novelist but he has marked his presence as a story teller, as a poet as well.

I got a chance to explore his novel “RET”. This is a superb novel, and you can say a novel set in modern times.
Whenever I used to read English Indian writers books’ about the lives of Indians abroad, I used to wonder where are the Punjabi writers writing about the Punjabi diaspora abroad. Fortunately I found about Harjeet Atwal, and how his novels are set in London.

RET is a story about a couple Ravi & Kanwal, and how their egos destroyed their loving marriage. It is not about the rights and wrongs, but about the perspectives towards life and family of two different people.

Also it describes the lives of Punjabis abroad, their work, their hardships, the family values etc.

Atwal’s writing is beautiful, precise and bonds you with the central characters. I was able to relate with Kanwal and Ravi as they were like my next door neighbors.

You can follow Harjeet Atwal through his blog:
